What we're turning into scares me...I'm fully convinced I was born 40 years too late.

I somewhat agree....though I like the faster life....I like to put a TV dinner in the microwave and have it done in a minute. It would take 20-30 minutes in the oven...faster is better, to an extent....

I agree with Tom, I like some of the faster life aspects but also sometimes (after 5 hours trying to fix my pc) hanker for living in a mud hut

Ever notice that nobody knows what to do when an answering machine doesn't pick up anymore? I'll be taking a nap at about 1PM if I don't have class for some reason, and the phone will ring...I know nobody expects anyone to be home, so I figure I have no good reason to answer it, and our answering machine is busted, so I just let it ring...
Every single time, the thing will ring at least 20 times before the person gives up. It didn't used to be that way. Annoys the crap out of me.

3. The workweek. What happened to supporting your family and community? Why are we all striving to achieve something that none (or a small percent) of us want. Work harder, faster, better (to quote Daft Punk). The workweek, in our lives will become 6 days, for many it already has. Are we ever going to get a chance to enjoy the fruits of these labours. It is so wrong that our lifes are all about making money.
*runs away, crying* :.(4. Technology. When will it stop? Are we all to live in a world of computer chip implants, serial numbers tattooed on the back of our necks. I think it will crash; actually hope is a better world. What is next, the internet has expanded our lives, but has it made us more inclusive or more egocentric?
"I think it wil crash" <-- that made me laugh really, but at the same time I came to realize the frightening reality behind those words.

GoF has a point...whatever happened to the good days when people would let it ring a maximum of 6 times, then just hang up? I hardly ever pick up the phone cos I know it's not for me, and I know they'll just ask me to take a message, so I figure I'll let the answering machine do it's job..thats what it's thee for, to take a message...but then when that damned machine is broken, or unplugged, the phone just rings forever...
Personally I perfer good old Voice Mail...hardly ever doesn't work, it picks up when you're on the phone....speaking of that, I hate that ****ing beep....every time I'm in any sort of a conversation, I get the god damn beep...I just never bother to pick the beep anymore...if it's important, they can damn well call back later, when I'll let the machine take a message

You know what else I don't like? All the crap that they're putting in cars these days...if I got in a brand new luxury car and tried to drive it, I don't think I'd know how. They've got the HUDs on the windshield and the night vision cameras and TV monitors with cameras in the trunk instead of mirrors and the automatically adjusting seats and....everything else...I really wouldn't know what to do with myself.
The day they start making cars that drive themselves is the day I get really afraid...because what will happen next is that the computer will be so good at driving you that it will be illegal to drive your own car. Then comes trip logging...parent buys a kid a car, then views everywhere the kid goes...then comes restricted places...parent buys a kid a car, sets where the car is allowed to go...
At that point, I'll just stay home forever. There's no point in having a car if you can't drive it where you want to.

The stuff you speak of is only in Mercedes :)
And about cars that drive themselves...in Las Vegas, they do, in fact, have busses that drive themselves...The driver still controls the acceleratio nand braking, but the bus steers....If the driver grabs the wheel and steers himself, it automaticly overrides the computer, which is good...
Damned computers...you know we'll invent the AI some day, and it'll turn out like either The Matrix or the Terminator movies...not cos of the AI, but because we'll get afraid and try to pull the plug, but it's self aware, so it'll fight back, purely out of self defense...
