The direction of this site

There are multiple options. And while it is my choice, I want to get some feedback from you guys.

As we speak, I am writing hacks for this forum for a general Star Trek gaming site. The hacks are to get an intergrated news, article, and screenshot into the forum, as well as designing teh 'portal' type page, as well as the other sections.

But the more work I do on this, the more I feel that I could be doing this for a more 'general' site. Or even writing my own forum software, or other stuff.

As much as I love this community, it is a dead end. There are only three games that are in development right now. And one gets released soon ('Shattered Galaxy for the PS2). And while the two games are sequels, and probably will be good, I'm not sure it's worth the effort.


So, there are multiple options here:


Just do what I've been doing with the hacks and get them finished.
Stop work on the hacks, and install 'stock' scripts and let you guys do all of the work of updating the site.
Keep this forum up for you guys, and don't bother with trying to get more of a site up.
Start up the site I've been thinking about (see below for more of a description) and merge/close this site OR keep this site as is.
Just give up and don't bother



Lots of options up there. I've been thinking about all of them.

The main option I've been thinking about is a new site. I have teh domain name uberforum.com and uberboard.com. It would make a good general forum site. And to be honest, it would most likely be easier to write a new forum script than to hack up vB. vB just isn't coded very well, IMO. Hard to read, too much fluff, etc...

So, post any comments you have here. This forum would remain up during any development cycle I might go through. So it won't be affected.

I think it should just be turned into a general trek site, and not focus so much on gaming...

We don't really want a general site alktogether, cos that tends to bring morons along with it...

I plead for whatever works best for you. I can imagine writing hacks goes somewhat faster than writing an entire new forum software. On the other hand, if you say vB is coded in a redundant way, perhaps writing hacks takes more time.

What I think is best is to do a combination of option 1 and 2. Yes, continue with writing hacks (or do that new forum software) but in addition make it so that a select group will be able to update the site (takes less time for you).

At any rate, I'm dying for you to get those NA3 things ready. If it's more convenient for you to write them on your own forum software, please do so!

I kinda like four personally...but definitely keep a Trek/Trek gaming section. The fact is, many of us are different people than we were two-three years ago, myself included. We still like Trek, but we've branched into other things too. I think the community site should reflect that.

I agree wholeheartidly with GoF....I'm not still in this community for gaming news, I haven't been since after BotF came out, I'm in here merely cos this BBS feels more like home, and more comfortable, than any other BBS....I still think it needs trek though, just general trek, thats all...

The past week I've been keeping consistant Muffin, especially since there's actually something to talk about (albeit very little). If things stay like this, I'll keep posting.

Really, the reason I've been so inconsistent for a loooonnnnnggg time (even back when TOP was going strong, and before it crashed and OPN started) is because I've been wrapped up in Planetarion. I still am in fact... but I'm starting to lose interest in that and gain it back here.
